About

Eddie Fitzgerald
As a lover of the natural world i have never ceased to wonder at the intracacies ingenuity and unsurpassable beauty of its bounty. I have had the good fortune to live between two places where this wonder can be nourished, the Beara peninsula, part of my native Cork and the Alpes de haute Provence France where i’ve lived and worked for the most of my life.

The pieces i put together come from little treasures i stumble upon during my ramblings; leaf, seed, pod, petal, bark, insect cadaver, snake moult, bone, shell, skeleton, hair, hide, feather, pebble, shell, seaweed…. anything on my path.

All plants are sustainably gathered all animals already dead. Every piece has its own story, place and time.

I have no mission nor statement. My work is composed in the medium of epoxy resin. My aim and pleasure is simply to the draw the eye to the magic we trod on and ignore on any path or journey.

How I work

All pieces are made with jewellery grade epoxy resin as the suspending medium and all elements within are organic or mineral, which i collect and select. Pressing , drying and research into which elements are suitable and resistant to resin encasing are essential steps in the creation process. While the resin is entirely U.V. resistant , these pieces are not suited to permanent outside display.
Pieces range from 10x10 cm. to 28X18 cm. with thickness between 5 to 15 mm. i usually frame the mid to larger pieces with simple bamboo strips.
The work can be displayed in many ways , mini easel , wall hung or fixed to a window. the majority of my work interacts and transforms particularly well with daylight .
